Before I accept your text for translation, I will check that the subject matter is one that I am able to translate. If it is not, I may recommend another translator to you. Subsequently, I will give you a quote that is calculated based on several factors (see
Proofreading and editing services can be provided for texts written originally in English or those translated from another language by a professional translator (whose mother tongue may or may not be not English). The text types that you may submit for proofreading are generally those listed in the translation section above.
The “track change” function in Microsoft Word is used to keep track of any alterations or suggestions made, so that you can see the changes and accept or reject them accordingly.
When proofreading your text, I will check for mistakes relating to spelling, grammar and punctuation. I will also ensure that your text is accurate and consistent in its message, vocabulary and register.
On the other hand, editing a text is slightly different. In order for your text to achieve its goal (e.g. to make a convincing argument, to sell something, to instil confidence in your figures, product or brand, etc.), I ensure that the expression in English reads in a natural way and I may make suggestions to make your text sound more convincing, depending on the text type. This is especially important in marketing and academic texts, when success depends on the quality of the writing.
